During in the last week of December holiday, we have a camp by my CCA, NPCC called UTC also known as, and unit training camp. We will be promoted if we attend the camp till the very last day. So, of course, this camp is held every year end.
We packed our things the day before the camp and we were nervous or excited since it was our first time having this UTC and we did not know what would happen there. So we went to the school for the camp with a curiosity heart.
We fall in at 6.45 a.m. and put our bags aside before proceed to the parade square for our physical training (PT). But before that, they told as the rules about this camp. No leaving partner alone or they will be "coop" and we have to redeem it by doing push-up as punishment for leaving them alone. This teaches us to have responsible to anything. Second rule; always run in a clockwise direction unless you are told not to do so. The 12 o' clock is the canteen. Thirdly, ask for permission to enter any place.
After our talk about rules, we had our warm up first at the parade square before going to our station. We got to do half squat, crunches, push-up, star jump as many as possible in order to win a prize. We did 330 half squat, 300 crunches, 270 push-up and 290 star jump in total. We were totally dreary. But even doing so many, we did not win. The other barrack does much much more than us.
After the PT, we played lots of other activities, games before our lunch. Most of the game was teaching us about the importance of teamwork and strategy. During the lunch, we took our box of supplies that will be lasting us for the 3 whole days. It is all instant noodles and canned food like sardines, pineapples, baked beans, curry chicken and tuna. Cooking under the stove with solid fuel burning, we boiled the water and cooked the noodles. We opened some cans like pineapples for additional type of food.
After our lunch, we have a RPG game where we can battle each other using cards. If you win, you take the loser's money. If you lose, you got to give all the money to the winner. If you do not want to battle as you know you will lose, run as fast as possible before the challenger can tap you for a battle. With the help of our sirs, we managed to win the game and have a prize, a packet of chip more cookies. Then we have a series of other game that needed teamwork, until our dinner.
Same for the lunch, we have to eat the same supplies. Waiting for the water to boil is the
painful and test patience part of our dinner.
With have another series of game before going to sleep at 9 p.m. since we have to run for a long distance the next day.
We woke up at 5 a.m. and be ready at 6 a.m. before we start our morning exercise and have our breakfast. Fortunately, for breakfast, it is not noodles but bread and jam.
We have a whole series of games involve as running around the whole school which act as a warm-up for our long run or walk. We have game like finding the place and getting the code placed there.
After a long time, we finally reached our lunch. As expected, we have noodles and canned food again. You see, we are really getting
sick of noodles anymore. No choice, we still have noodles for our lunch.
We soon went to the East Coast Park for our activities, Land Expedition, in short, Land-Ex. We got to go from place to place and finish the mission needed for us to proceed to next station. With our hint from our sir, we managed to have a
power-card :
Skip one station. We choose to skip the last station that is very far from there. This saved lots of our time. And of course, we won the whole game and have a 20 minutes rest before the other barrack can reach the finish point.
Soon after this, we have another series of game. But this time, it is different from other series of games, we have water game.
WATER BAG! Obviously, we got wet in the end of the game.
After the water game, we have our dinner.
SAME thing over again. All of us were sick of noodles. Some even joked that they will not be eating any noodles after going home for weeks.
After dinner, we have campfire. We sang cheers and acted out a story related to prehistorically creatures since this year UTC’s theme is
PREHISTORICAL CREATURES.
After campfire, we have our last game for UTC,
commando's night. We were supposed to put out other people's strings which is located at the back. Collect as many strings as possible and win the game.
After the game, we have our supper: biscuit and salt water. Salt water. NO kidding. It is really super salty. I almost vomited after drinking the water but luckily, I didn't.
We then went to sleep after supper. We were all excited as the next day is going to be the last day for the camp and we will be able to go home.
After what seemed eternity, it is finally morning, the last day of camp. We were asked to clean the whole canteen and the utensils.
After the cleaning, we have our briefing and prize-giving. We managed to win some "awards" and get food as present.
And finally, we were allowed to go home after taking our bags. YES! Freedom! At last, we can go home.
This UTC really teaches us a lot of things. Although I am really very tired after that…
